Rondo - Tokyo 2006

The Group Motion Dance Company is a professional ensemble, regularly carrying between five and eight dancers. Since its establishment in 1968, the Group Motion Dance Company has created more than 45 dance theater pieces. The company repertory ranges from full-length, multi-media dance theater pieces to programs of shorter dances, which can include group and solo works with live music, interactive sound, and video technology. The company also offers a range of complementary lectures, workshops, and demonstrations, which can be presented in any combination for touring or residency.

Group Motion is on the Roster of the Pennsylvania Performing Arts on Tour (PennPAT). This program provides fee support for Pennsylvania artists touring in the following states: DC, DE, MD, NJ, NY, OH, PA VA, WV, and the US Virgin Islands.

PennPAT is a program of the Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation developed and funded by the Vira I. Heinz Endowment; the William Penn Foundation; the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts; and the Pew Charitable Trusts.

Programs

  • Performances
  • Master classes and techniques in improvisation, featuring Mary-Wigman based techniques.
  • Lecture demonstrations on the Group Motion multi-media and interactive technology work.
  • Work with interactive technology.
  • Dance/movement workshops for children and young adults.
  • Community workshops, another unique creation of the organization, which guide participants through a series of exploratory improvisation structures, set to live music. Workshops can be directed toward students, dancers, or members of the general public.
  • Performance workshops, called "Inside Dance," in which the company performs a repertory piece and then demonstartes the structures behind its creation.

Technical Requirements

  • Stage: 30-feet wide by 30-feet deep. Marley, linoleum/vinyl, or hardoowd floor.
  • Lighting: Standard stage lighting, including some side lights.
  • Sound system: Standard sound system, preferably stereo; CD and cassette player.
  • Multi-media systems: Cyc or projection screen, slide and video projectors (company can provide, if necessary).

Fees

  • Performance: $3,000 - $7,000 (depending on size and scope of work), plus expenses.
  • Residency: $5,000 - $15,000 for 3-5 days (depending on size and scope of work and number of performances and workshops) plus expenses.
